Player: Hurston Waldrep
School: Florida Position(s): RHP
Height: 6’2″ Weight: 210 lbs. Bats: Right Throws: Right-
Pitches: Fastball: 94-96, Has touched 98. Power pitch, heavy downhill action. Plus look but can be hittable when command is off and it sits over heart of plate. Splitter: 86-90, Filthy. Just falls off the table extremely late. Easy plus grade Slider: 82-85, Good 2 plane look. Heavy, power pitch. above average to plus. Curve: High 70s to low 80s, 12-6 rarely used but can break it out now and then.
Delivery/Mechanics: Works with pace and a plan. There is a pretty heavy body lean in the delivery moving the arm slot high. There is also late effort in the transition to that body lean through the finish leading to inconsistencies in release point. Command can be a real issue at times.

Summary: Waldrep is the kind of guy who could be a future ace of a big league rotation if he end up with the right organization, but he could also be a guy who loses all feel for command and flame out. He has a case for the best stuff in this draft, the difference between he and the top pitcher, Paul Skenes, is command. If the command doesn’t come together, there is still a path to being a quality reliever, although his athleticism suggests he can and will be a starter, he just needs some fine tuning.
