| Summary: The power in the bat is the carrying tool for Thach, but there are some scouts who feel he can be more than just a power hitting first baseman. The bat speed is impressive and he can drive the ball out of the yard to all fields, but the bat path can get long and creates some issues in the hit tool. While he may never win a foot race, he is athletic around the first base bag and can be a quality defender there. He has a strong arm and will see some time in the outfield where he can play right, but the foot speed leaves a lot to be desired in terms of range. The key for Thach is going to be improving the bat-to-ball skill without impacting the bat speed and power. Otherwise he is destined to be a mid-day two pick (or early day two now that the draft is only two days). | |||||||||||
