| Summary: Idaho is about as far from a hotbed of baseball talent as it gets, so it was no surprise Whitney was able to dominate, but the stuff played against elite opposition as well. With a fastball that has been up to 98 but sits low-to-mid 90s, he will fit right in with the rest of the Oregon State pitching staff. He also features two distinct breaking balls, with the best being a mid-70s big curve that could become a plus offering to go with a shorter cutting slider in the low-80s. His change is not as effective as the other three, but he has good feel for the pitch and it is a legitimate fourth option. Given the four pitch mix, a long frame with projection, and a quality feel for pitching already, this is an easy starter profile with limited reliever risk. | |||||||||||
