| Summary: Long and lean prep pitchers are far from uncommon, but Lafflam is a level of length and lean scouts haven’t seen since Triston McKenzie. Beyond the frame, Lafflam is unique in his delivery where he starts on the first base side of the rubber and steps very closed creating real cross body action from a slightly lower 3/4 slot, although some inconsistent elbow bend can bring the release point a bit higher. The fastball sits comfortably in the low-90s and gets up to 95, a velo one could easily project he sit at before too long. He technically has a curve and slider, although they are far too similar and is much more effective at the higher slider velos, and I anticipate he scrap the curve in time. The breaker(s) feature plenty of sweep and high spin, making him a guy who fits a lot of team draft models. He has an inconsistent change but, at it’s best, has good late tumble and could easily develop into an average or better offering. | |||||||||||
