| Summary: In terms of pure stuff, McElvain is among the very best in the 2026 class, he just needs to harness it more consistently. He walked about five per nine innings between Vandy and Bourne on the Cape last year, but struck out nearly 11. The fastball is a genuine plus pitch running up to 96 and sitting comfortably from 93-95 with riding life. His slider can be a very good pitch in the upper-70s to low-80s, although the shape can get away from him at times showing a good bump but lacking sharpness. When he snaps it off well it is a true swing-and-miss weapon. He has the makings of a solid change, but it still has work to become a viable pitch at the next level. He can be a bit short on the way back with the arm path, and can show the ball some behind his back, but he gets good extension out of a 3/4 slot release. | |||||||||||
