| Summary: The “other” Witherspoon twin, Malachi was actually higher on many draft boards than Kyson coming out of high school, but Kyson has established himself as the top Witherspoon this draft cycle. That doesn’t mean there isn’t a ton to like from Malachi, because there certainly is. His best breaking ball is a true hammer curve that spins greater than 3k rpm, but he has a sharp slider as well. The fastball flirts with triple digits and sits easily in the mid-90s. Despite being in the rotation heading into the year for the Sooners, Malachi’s future is in the bullpen because command is often optional with him. The stuff is huge, but so is the range of where the ball may end up. If he does reel in the command he has the arsenal to start, but I really like the profile in the bullpen and could easily see him being a guy quick to the big leagues and throwing high leverage innings. | |||||||||||
