| Summary: A northeastern arm with a commitment to Duke is typically a recipe for a tough sign, but don’t be surprised to see a team pull the trigger early to get Paone. He has a lower release point with a fastball that is up to 97 with run. His slider gets into the mid-80s and has wipeout two plane depth, although he can struggle to snap it off as consistent as you want to see. His mid-80s changeup doesn’t have the potential of the other two offerings, but it could develop into a fringy offering that would allow him to work out of a rotation. He has much better command than most prep arms, especially those with a lower arm slot and cross body action, which helps the starter profile. Rumblings here are that commitment to Duke is one of the stronger in the prep class, so it also wouldn’t be shocking to hear him pull his name out of the draft ahead of it, but the pure stuff is certainly worthy of a selection. | |||||||||||
