| Summary: A year ago the Los Angeles Angels drafted an infielder from Mississippi State named David Mershon who went on to participate in the Arizona Fall League and has already seen time in AAA. This year there is another Mershon who could hear his name called in the draft, this time with David’s younger brother Peter who, like David, is committed to Mississippi State. Peter doesn’t play the infield, instead is a catcher with good athleticism that could translate well to the outfield too. He makes plenty of hard contact and has put up solid exit velos when he syncs up the moving parts in his swing well. He has plus speed, so the outfield is a real fallback option if he doesn’t make big strides as a receiver and with his pop times, where 2.05 and higher times are the regular. Like the older Mershon, Peter will be 19 on draft day, meaning he would be a draft eligible sophomore if he makes it to campus. | |||||||||||
