| Summary: A genuine two way player, Johnson will follow his head coach Chris Pollard from Duke to Virginia and will continue to be an important piece of Pollard’s plans. In 2025 the stats on both sides were lackluster, with an ERA over 7 and an OPS of just .851, but he had some big moments, especially in the Super Regional. He plays good defense in the outfield, but the bat wrap and struggles with pitch recognition will likely limit his chances to stick as a position player, much less a two way guy as a pro. His best future upside comes on the mound where his short arm back into a lower 3/4 slot with some cross fire can really make for some uncomfortable at bats for hitters. The fastball is still in the low 90 but there is still some projection there and it plays up thanks to a quality changeup. He also features a breaking ball in the upper 70s that offers a ton of sweep across the zone. His command needs to be reeled in, as free passes really hurt him this season, but there is a lot to like and the potential is still very much here. | |||||||||||
