| Summary: The son of 11 year MLB veteran Jose Contreras, Joseph has the loud stuff you would expect. The fastball was in the upper 80s last summer but took big steps forward in terms of velo through the year and wound up sitting 92-96 and has touched 98. It isn’t just velo though, there is some cut and ride at the higher velos while he also throws a two seamer at the lower velos with good sink. He has a slider with late bite sitting 82-85 and a traditional changeup in the low 80s. His best pitch though is a pitch you don’t really see much these days, a true forkball in the mid to upper 70s, occasionally into the upper 80s with heavy tumble that absolutely disappears as it gets to the plate. He throws from a high 3/4 slot and repeats his delivery well thanks to his rather mature frame, but the command is spotty still. If he can harness the command he could easily find himself in first round consideration especially since he will turn 18 just a couple months before the draft. | |||||||||||
