| Summary: About as young as you can be for a draft eligible sophomore Wentz had some interest in the 2024 MLB draft, but ultimately was a pretty safe bet to make it to Wake. With Marek Houston at short, Wentz played third and second this season, and third is probably where he profiles best long term. He has plus arm strength that will play really well at the hot corner, as will his quick feet and quality footwork on the dirt. He is a switch hitter who has a more natural swing from the left side, but not to the extreme it should prevent him from remaining a guy who swings it from both sides. He gets rather heavy on the back leg and the bat path can get long which does lead to some contact issues. That said, he gets plenty of bat speed and there is real strength from both sides of the plate. The strength plays in game as he slugged .566 in his first year of college ball and there is more power to come especially if he can take his contact skills from below average to even fringy. | |||||||||||
