| Summary: Ferguson fits the classic mold of a power right-hander out of Texas — big, physical frame with room to add more strength and a fastball already touching 96 that plays up thanks to fact he hides the ball well. He keeps the arm stroke short before firing from a high, behind-the-ear release, adding deception but also creating effort in the delivery with noticeable head whack. That effort, combined with the short arm path, fuels some reliever risk despite his starter’s build and advanced feel for the zone. His breaking ball is a firm, sharp curve in the high 70s to low 80s that may evolve into a more traditional slider over time, flashing above-average potential. He also shows solid feel for a mid-80s changeup that tunnels well off the fastball. While the delivery and arm action raise durability questions, the raw stuff and strike-throwing ability give him a legitimate chance to stick in a rotation. Bottom line — if it clicks as a starter, he’s got the ingredients to be a mid-rotation arm with swing-and-miss stuff. If not, he has the mentality, arsenal, and power profile to be one of the nastiest late-inning weapons in his class. | |||||||||||
