| Summary: The former catcher brings his arm strength to the mound, and it shows in a fastball that sits 90–94 and has reached 95 with elite spin traits. The short arm action and low three-quarter slot are unmistakably those of a converted backstop, but the delivery is simple, repeatable, and creates deception. His fastball plays best at the top of the zone with carry, though scattered command and modest extension can leave it vulnerable when left middle. Hoffman’s slider is the separator, flashing future plus with sharp sweep in the low-80s and spin rates consistently above 2,500 rpm. At its best, it’s a true bat-misser against hitters on both sides, though the shape can vary and consistency remains a developmental hurdle. He will mix in a split-change in the mid-80s that shows tumble, but it is more of a show-me pitch at this stage and lags behind the other two offerings. While the repertoire is still fastball-slider heavy, the spin traits and athleticism from behind the plate give Hoffman a foundation to build on.
