2026 MLB Draft: Blake Morningstar, RHP, Wake Forest

Player: Blake Morningstar
School: Wake ForestPosition(s): RHP
Height: 6’4″Weight: 225 lbs.Bats: 6’4″Throws: 225 lbs.
Summary:
Morningstar brings a strong frame and whippy arm that generate fastballs in the 93–95 range, reaching 97, with both four-seam ride and two-seam sink. He repeats from a lower three-quarter slot with good leg drive, though the delivery is effortful and can pull him to the first-base side. Even so, the life on the fastball allows it to play in the zone, and the foundation points to strikeout potential.

The breaking ball is the separator, flashing plus with sharp two-plane depth in the low 80s. He mixes both a curveball and a slider, each showing different shape but working as swing-and-miss options. His cutter at 87–90 gives him another firm look to attack righthanders, while the changeup in the mid-80s flashes late dive and chase traits. With as many as five usable pitches, Morningstar can vary shape and speed effectively when in rhythm.

Consistency in strike-throwing remains the lever for his future role. The pure stuff and deep arsenal point to rotation potential, with back-end starter traits if the command stabilizes. With continued refinement, Morningstar has the raw ingredients to carve out a starting role, though his effortful operation could also lead to impact innings in relief if he doesn’t fully harness the mix.
