2026 MLB Draft: Jaxson Wood , SS, Hoover

Player: Jaxson Wood
School: Hoover (AL)Position(s): SS/2B
Height: 5’9″Weight: 165lbsBats: RightThrows: Right
Summary:
Wood hails from Hoover Alabama and is the number 1 ranked prep player from the state in the class of 2026. At just 5’9″, 165lbs Wood utilizes every bit of that frame to generate above average power, especially to the pull side. He plays with situational awareness, capable of spraying the ball to all fields. The bat speed (88.5mph) is exceptional, with a swing that stays on plane through the zone.

Twitchy and extremely athletic, Wood posted a 6.40, 60 yard dash this past summer. Listed as a SS/2B, he covers a lot of ground up the middle with arm strength that plays at shortstop at the next level. Strength will continue to progress.

With all of the measurables present, maybe the most intriguing part of Wood’s game is the way he plays it. He runs with a high motor and brings the energy from first pitch to the last. Slated to attend Tennessee next fall, Wood should find himself back home in Hoover with the Vols at some point, if he makes it to Knoxville.
