Summary:
Seeing him as a freshman at the D-II level, it was clear the stuff was legit. He started school at Colorado Mesa at 16 and already carried a heavy workload by the time he reached the Draft, Morris brings an unusual mix of early experience and polish that shows up in how he sequences and fills the zone. He attacks north–south with confidence, working a 93–95 mph fastball that can climb into the upper-90s and play at the top of the zone thanks to angle and carry. Slider and cutter are his primary weapons behind it—both firm, both consistently landed, and both showing the sharper shape that emerged after his velocity ticked up in pro ball. Curveball and changeup round out a full mix, giving him multiple ways to get ahead and enough variety to work deep into starts even without a single plus bat-missing pitch.

What stands out most is the strike throwing. Morris leverages his entire arsenal with poise, attacking early, pitching efficiently, and rarely giving free passes. The command helps the profile play above the raw stuff, allowing him to navigate lineups without having to rely solely on chase. Continued separation between the slider and cutter—or a firmer changeup—would give him the out pitch he currently lacks, but the foundation is that of a dependable, innings-eating starter.

Given the combination of advanced feel, rising velocity, and a starter’s mentality, Morris fits cleanly as MLB-ready rotation depth with a real shot to hold down a back of the rotation role. If one secondary weapon takes a jump, the Twins could have more than just stability—they could have another sneaky mid-rotation find.
