| Summary: Caba’s defense is already special, the kind of pure shortstop polish that stands out even among elite prospects. He moves with twitch, fluidity, and advanced body control, covering ground with ease while maintaining balance through difficult plays. The actions are smooth, the internal clock is mature, and the arm shows plenty of carry despite his smaller frame. He’s instinctive enough to make the routine look automatic and athletic enough to finish plays most shortstops don’t reach. That glove—and his plus speed—give him one of the highest defensive floors in the minors. At the plate, the approach is patient and contact-first from a deep stance. Caba rarely chases, works into good counts, and shows strong bat-to-ball skill from both sides of the plate. But the impact is limited: the frame is small, the bat speed is fair, and the swing is flat, producing mostly light line drives or ground balls without much carry. Strength gains and mechanical tweaks are essential for him to elevate the ball with authority, as lower-level pitching has already begun to expose how little present impact exists. He’ll get on base, he’ll run, and he’ll compete in the box—but meaningful offensive growth is the variable that defines his ceiling. Because the glove is that good—potential Gold Glove caliber—Caba doesn’t need to become a power hitter to earn everyday run. Even modest offensive gains, enough to keep pitchers honest and punish mistakes, could push him into a contact-and-defense regular. Without that growth, he still projects as valuable depth thanks to elite fielding and baseball IQ. The bat dictates the upside; the glove alone ensures a real big-league future. | |||||||||||
