Summary:
TCU is one of the most talented teams in college baseball this season and, in Nolan Traeger, they have one of the most intriguing catching prospects in the game. Traeger brings an exciting combination of offensive and defensive steadiness, and more than a year away from his draft date in 2027, the sophomore is already creating a ton of buzz about just how high his potential is.

Offensively, Traeger has demonstrated a very solid base. The bat-to-ball skills are already well developed, and the results have followed, posting an OPS mark of .900 during his freshman year in Fort Worth. He walked only 8 fewer times than he struck out, demonstrating the kind of knowledge of the strike zone you would expect out of a catcher, and continued that trend during the summer on the Cape and with Team USA. The power is still building into his game, but with more experience, Traeger will be able to lean more into the raw power he possesses, and add another dimension to an already impressive offensive profile.

Defensively, Traeger is similarly well grounded. He is comfortable both in a knee-down and two point stance behind the plate, and possesses strong receiving skills and a good arm. He is very comfortable with backpicks, especially to first base, and is more than willing to utilize them to keep baserunners honest. His blocking is solid as well, keeping the ball in front of him very effectively and very rarely allowing runners to take advantage of a ball in the dirt. He already showcases a great defensive profile, and will only improve with the continued experience he is sure to get in his two remaining collegiate seasons.
