2026 MLB Draft: Matt Ponatoski, SS/RHP, Archbichop Moeller

Player: Matt Ponatoski
School: Archbishop Moeller (OH)Position(s): SS/RHP
Height: 6’2″Weight: 200 lbs.Bats: LeftThrows: Right
Summary:
A true two-sport standout with Mr. Ohio honors in both football and baseball, Ponatoski brings real impact tools and layered upside. The left-handed swing is relaxed and efficient, working through the zone with quick hands, a steep-but-controlled barrel tip, and mature bat-to-ball feel. He creates natural leverage and already shows emerging pull-side impact with more on the way as his frame fills. The athleticism translates across the dirt: plus arm strength, soft hands, and lateral agility give him a chance to start his career at shortstop, though the body may eventually steer him toward third. That said, don’t discount the overall athleticism keeping him at the 6.

There’s also legitimate two-way intrigue. On the mound he shows a smooth operation, a lively low- to mid-90s fastball, and a sharp 80–83 mph slider with real finish, flashing a mid-80s changeup as well. It’s still raw, but the ingredients are real. Committed to Kentucky for both football and baseball, he’s one of the younger players in the class and comes with genuine signability questions—yet the combination of contact skill, improving pop, arm strength, and two-way athleticism gives him early-round upside if he chooses the pro path.
