2026 MLB Draft: Ty Head, OF, NC State

Player: Ty Head
School: NC StatePosition(s): OF
Height: 6’3″Weight: 205 lbs.Bats: LeftThrows: Left
Summary:
Head brings a lean, athletic look to center field with the instincts and first step that make the position feel comfortable for him. The left-handed stroke is contact-forward with quiet barrel release, and he works with a patient approach that lets him get into hitter-friendly counts. Strength is the missing piece — added muscle should help him turn more of the liners into real impact.

The hands are quick and the barrel accuracy shows up against velocity, though the swing can get choppy when he tries to create lift. Approach trends positively: more walks than strikeouts as a freshman and consistent zone control. EV data lags behind the physical projection, but the frame suggests another gear once he fills out.

Defensively, the reads and long stride give him above-average range despite only average timed speed. Tracks well in both gaps and plays with confidence on routes. Profiles cleanly in center, and if the bat adds even modest power, he fits the top-third of a lineup as an on-base-driven CF with room to grow into more damage. You can also tell he takes great pride in his defense as his reposts are of most commonly his defensive highlights rather than his big hits, which he had plenty of.
