| Summary: When Bo Rhudy hit the transfer portal this summer, he instantly became the best reliever available to schools looking to upgrade their bullpens. With a big, physical build and a unicorn fastball, Rhudy has been one of the best relievers in the country, posting comparable underlying numbers (xFIP) to such luminaries as Kyson Witherspoon, Dylan Volantis, and Tyler Bremner. If he can keep up his performance following his big move to Tennessee, expect him to be one of the most sought-after relievers whenever he decides to declare for the draft. In his repertoire, Rhudy primarily relies on a two pitch mix. His fastball is a true one-of-one, posting spin numbers around 2800 RPM and nearly 20 inches of induced vertical break. Combined with velocity in the low to mid 90’s, it is one of the hardest pitches to hit in college baseball, making hitters miss with good control and wicked movement. He also features a big slider that posts similarly impressive movement and spin, and yields similarly impressive results. A third pitch could add more depth to his offerings, but make no mistake, Rhudy has survived and thrived with just the two. Mechanically, Rhudy utilizes his big frame very effectively. He delivers from the left side of the rubber, rearing back with a shorter arm stroke to deliver from a slightly over-the-top arm slot. He stays low throughout the delivery, staying deep into his legs as he delivers with his back knee nearly touching the dirt. He repeats the delivery well, and is consistent with both pitches looking very similar mechanically. For Rhudy, the big test this spring will be repeating his excellent performances in one of the toughest conferences in the country. If he can perform on Rocky Top the same way he did at Kennesaw State, he and his incredible spin numbers will have professional teams chasing him down when it comes time for him to declare for the draft. | |||||||||||
