| Summary: Five tool players in today’s game are hard to come by. The potential for Roberts to be just that at the next level are apparent. He is regarded by many as the most physically gifted athlete in his class. At 6’5″, 220 lbs. the raw power is there. Roberts displays elite bat speed with a pull side approach. He is capable of working to the opposite field, however, as he starts to see higher level pitching that approach will need to improve. He did struggle at times this past summer with the breaking ball and showed some chase on fastballs out of the zone. Despite the large frame, Roberts can move. He has posted sub 6.4 60 yard dashes and has shown the ability and aptitude for baserunning. With the raw power he displays, the potential future as a 30-30 player is real. Though Roberts has shown promise in both the infield and on the mound, he projects long term in the outfield. Given the athleticism, Roberts certainly has the ability to man centerfield, however right field may be his landing ground. The projectability of Roberts will entice many clubs. A young senior, not turning 18 until two weeks after the draft, will also excite many. Roberts ceiling will ultimately be determined by organization he ends up with. Slated to go to the University of Florida, it is hard to see Roberts slipping past the 2nd round making it unlikely he will end up in Gainesville. Offers from Division 1 schools in 4 different sports paints the picture of the athlete we’re talking about. Roberts has future superstar written all over him, should his landing spot hone in and develop the raw talent. | |||||||||||
