2026 MLB Draft: Denton Lord, RHP, South Walton

Player: Denton Lord
School: South Walton (FL)Position(s): RHP
Height: 6’8″Weight: 220 lbs.Bats: RightThrows: Right
Summary:
At 6’8″ with a fastball that has touched 98 and lives comfortably in the low-to-mid 90s, Lord is the kind of arm that stops you in your tracks. The high three-quarter slot creates natural carry and angle that generates swing-and-miss at the top of the zone, and the size and projection remaining in the rail-thin frame suggest the velocity has more room to grow. The curveball is the most advanced secondary — a big sweeping breaker with two-plane action and heavy usage that already flashes plus — while a changeup gives him a third option that has shown enough feel to project as a viable weapon.

The delivery has produced some inconsistency worth tracking. Head whack, effort, and a tendency to overthrow have surfaced at times, and limited leg drive leaves projection on the table from a pure mechanics standpoint. None of it is disqualifying — managing such a long frame through a delivery is its own developmental challenge — but the command will need to tighten alongside the stuff as he advances. The composure and strike-throwing ability already on display for a pitcher his size are encouraging signs that the delivery can be refined.

The curveball needs to tighten into a true wipeout weapon and the secondary depth needs to catch up to the fastball, but the mid-rotation ceiling is well within reach if the delivery refines and the arsenal deepens with experience.
