| Summary: Murdock is a strong, physical righty whose arm strength and athleticism give the starter projection real legs despite some effort in the delivery. The fastball touches 98 with life and quick arm speed from a three-quarter slot, and the slider is the secondary that turns heads — the ability to manipulate shape between curveball depth and lateral sweep gives him a weapon he can deploy in multiple ways depending on the matchup. A changeup rounds out the mix and flashes as a usable third pitch that keeps the rotation path alive. The late body pull in the delivery is the mechanical note that will drive the command conversation. It can lead to inconsistent release points and sporadic command issues that compound under a starter’s workload — the athleticism and delivery repeatability give reason to believe it can be addressed, but it’s the variable that separates a back-end starter from a high-leverage relief outcome. When the delivery stays in sync the extension and arm speed allow the stuff to play at its best, and improving fastball command has been a positive trend. The back-end starter ceiling is the realistic projection if the delivery tightens and the command holds — the three-pitch mix and projectable frame give the starter case a legitimate foundation, and the closer potential in the bullpen is a more than comfortable fallback if the body pull proves difficult to fully eliminate. | |||||||||||
