Summary:
The physical tools have never been in question and they remain as loud as ever. Elite bat speed, plus raw power that can damage any part of the ballpark, plus speed once he gets up to full stride, and a plus center field defender who covers ground with good ball skills at the wall — the athletic profile checks every box and the ceiling has always been easy to dream on. Against left-handed pitching and fastballs he can catch up to, the production reflects the talent.

The breaking ball is where the profile has consistently unraveled. Well-located sliders have exposed a flaw that has followed him through multiple opportunities at the highest level — the miss rate against quality spin is too high to sustain against a pitching staff that can exploit it consistently, and an over-aggressive approach that expands the zone compounds the issue. The strikeout rate has climbed alongside the pitch recognition concerns, and the offensive profile against right-handed pitching becomes too volatile to build a lineup around. Eight years of pro ball have made the pattern clear enough that it’s difficult to project meaningful improvement at this stage.

The fourth outfielder role is the realistic outcome — the speed, center field defense and damage against left-handed pitching give him genuine value in that capacity. Without consistent production against breaking balls, the everyday ceiling that the tools suggest remains out of reach.
