| Summary: McKee has had an up-and-down junior year for Georgia Tech, but a new pitch may have turned his fortunes around just as draft season begins to approach. In his most recent outing, on a cold and rainy Thursday night against Boston College, McKee struck out 14 while allowing only 2 baserunners thanks to a new hybrid cutter/slider that had the Eagles looking silly all night long. Mechanically, McKee has a very simple move that works well for him. He is slow and methodical at the beginning, rocking back into his right foot before rearing and delivering. After a bit of a short armed release, he does tend to fall to his glove side, leading me to believe he has even more in the tank velocity-wise (he does already have plenty, with his fastball topping out at 94 and holding velocity throughout his outings). Repertoire wise, McKee has a deep arsenal that he uses to attack hitters. His fastball will sit from 92-94, and is paired with a sinker and cutter that work well to keep hitters guessing. The fastball has good life and plays well at the top of the zone, and tunnels extremely well with his other offerings. For his offspeed offerings, McKee has started throwing an old variation of his slider, which he revealed after his start at BC, and has been using it to great effect so far. He also throws a curveball in the low 80’s and a changeup in the mid 80’s that have both shown real swing-and-miss potential. | |||||||||||
