Summary:
Lombard not only comes from a strong baseball family but from a historically strong program at Gulliver Prep. A school that has produced over 20 draft picks, Jacob Lombard may be the crown jewel in due time. He’s is an all around athlete manning a position where that holds an awful lot of weight. Despite his large frame, he flashes double plus speed and will be a threat on the base paths at the next level. That athleticism shows in the field where Lombard displays extremely smooth actions at shortstop with exceptional range, foot work, and instinct. Some have questioned the arm strength, though it has not been enough of an issue to doubt his future in the 6-hole.

The swing is quiet, with minimal excess movement and compact through the zone. There is natural lift with elite bat speed. The potential for plus power is there. He’s continued to add strength with a mature approach and a ceiling that profiles as a potential superstar.

The son of a former big leaguer and the brother of a rising prospect in the Yankees organization, Jacob adds a high IQ to his physical traits. Many believe he will be a top five pick in next month’s first round, and for good reason. He will be tied to Grady Emerson as the two top prep shortstops in the 2026 class. Both are expected to be franchise altering talents. Time will tell where Lombard ranks amongst the prep stars from this year’s draft.
