| Summary: Vazquez checks the boxes scouts want from a 2028 prep infield prospect. A plus arm that fits comfortably on either side of the infield, a plus runner with the athleticism to potentially grow the speed tool further if the frame cooperates, and soft hands with good momentum through the ball on grounders — the defensive tools are legitimate and the actions give him every chance to hold shortstop as long as the body allows. The footwork and fluidity can look more third base-ish at times, but the athleticism is the determining factor and it points toward staying at the premium position for now. The left-handed swing is where the ceiling gets defined. Above-average power potential that is already flashing with strength still growing in the upper body, an aggressive base-running approach that carries over to the plate, and the ability to drive the ball to all parts of the field give the offensive profile multiple carrying traits to develop. The head getting busy and pulling off in the swing has led to soft ground balls and weak contact that undermine the raw tools — quieting the head and staying through the ball consistently is the mechanical priority that will unlock the impact the physical tools are projecting toward. The hit tool development will determine how high the ceiling climbs. The raw ingredients are all present across a lean, athletic frame with significant strength projection remaining, and a 2028 shortstop with this kind of arm, speed and offensive upside is a profile with plenty of room to grow into something significant as the high school career builds. | |||||||||||
