Player: Maxx Yehl
School: West VirginiaPosition(s): LHP
Height: 6’6″Weight: 235 lbs. Bats: LeftThrows: Left
Summary:
The 2026 Big 12 Pitcher of the Year is a big man, standing at 6’6″, 235 lbs. After showing flashes of a southpaw with pro potential in 2024, Yehl built on that foundation this spring after missing the entire 2025 season due to injury. Yehl is an imposing figure on the mound and ups the ante with a crossfire delivery that gives left-handed hitters fits. Setting up slightly toward the first base side of the rubber, Yehl gets things started with a controlled leg lift just above the belt and propels his glove toward the first base dugout. He lands even further toward a left handed hitter creating the crossfire action. He controls his body well for a big man, landing on a firm front side helping to create a consistent slot.

Yehl brings a fastball touching the mid-90’s but sitting comfortably at 92-94 mph. It has sinker traits and tunnels very well with his off speed offerings. The sweeper is the out pitch. Holding in the mid-80’s, it shows depth and horizontal break away from left-handed hitters. He does mix in a harder, tight slider as well.

Yehl along with the rest of the Mountaineers will have the opportunity to do it on the national stage as they’ve punched their ticket to Omaha for the first time in their history. They did so behind a strong performance from Yehl after a slight injury scare a week prior. He notched 5 inns, with 1 earned on 4 k’s against Cal Poly in the Morgantown Super Regional.

Yehl profiles as a reliever currently. He should be seen as one of the top left handed options in the class. There is room for more mph in his frame. Should he develop in the right organization, Yehl could be a high leverage options out of the bullpen for a number of clubs.
