| Summary: Burress’s historic run at Georgia Tech ended in heart breaking fashion on June 1st, as the national number 2 seeded Yellow Jackets were ousted by Oklahoma in the Atlanta Regional. Despite the early exit, Burress has cemented his name as an all time great at GT. In his three years in Atlanta, Burress re-wrote the record books passing college baseball greats Jason Varitek and Mark Teixeira (Home runs and Slugging percentage). After not being selected on in the 1st round of the 2023 draft, Burress bet on himself by heading to campus. It’s safe to say, that bet paid off. In 2023 there were certainly questions about Burress’s size (5’9″). In his three years at GT, Burress has all but silenced any doubt about his skill set translating to the next level. Burress is an extremely twitchy athlete with an explosive lower half and elite level bat speed. He rarely expands the zone, with a nearly 16% walk rate and keeps K’s down with a 13.8% rate. He does have a tendency to struggle with spin lower in the zone but its an area he continues to improve. He’s a natural hitter with very real feel for the barrel and legitimate power to all fields. Burress is above average defensively, showing advanced route running and a solid arm in centerfield. On bases Burress is capable of running, though its not his strongest tool and will take further development. The bat is what will carry Burress both from an overall hit tool perspective and raw power at the next level. The offensive numbers over three years at GT are staggering. Career BA .375, 60 HR’s, 189 RBI’s, 1.204 OPS. He’s proven that “size doesn’t matter” time and time again. He’s a high energy, full throttle player that will bring excitement to the park daily, wherever that may be moving forward. | |||||||||||
