Summary:
A switch-hitting catcher converted from the infield as a teenager, Liranzo brings a physical, power-forward profile from both sides of the plate. The raw power is easily plus and shows up in the hard contact quality when he connects — the swing generates enormous force at contact but punishes mistimed swings severely, and the contact rate has been the persistent barrier keeping the production from reflecting the raw tools. The walk rates reflect genuine zone awareness — the discipline is real, and that foundation gives the profile something durable to build from while the contact mechanics develop.

The most recent season was a difficult one, and the performance likely undersells the true capability of the profile. Still just 22 for much of the current season, the developmental timeline for a player simultaneously learning to catch, building two distinct switch-hitting approaches, and managing a heavy workload is legitimately complicated — the raw power and disciplined approach remain intact and the bounceback case is credible.

Defensively, a plus arm gives him the most impactful tool behind the dish. Blocking has shown improvement and the receiving skills are developing, though consistency receiving the ball cleanly and framing at the edges are still works in progress. The catching path is possible with continued refinement, but first base as a fallback gives the profile a landing spot where the bat can carry the evaluation without the defensive development needing to fully arrive. The power gives the upside enough to make the investment worthwhile if the contact takes a meaningful step forward.
