2026 MLB Draft: Adrian Lopez, INF, USC

Summary:

Lopez was a mainstay in the heart of the order that propelled USC to much of its success in 2026. The 6’4” infielder provided a reliable bat and consistent run production for the Trojans in his Sophomore and Junior campaigns. Entered college as a middle infielder; however, his tall frame and long limbs have made his transition to the corners a no-brainer.

Shows good anticipation in the infield and works behind the ball with clean glove work and soft hands that make him a reliable defender. While instincts and fielding actions are sharp, I think his physical profile and proportions make the most sense at 3B/1B. Still, he shows above-average footwork and mobility when fielding to his left and right.

Sets up in a squared and athletic stance in the box. A simple leg lift which turns into a short stride with 2K. Consistent approach, looking to barrel the ball in all quadrants, especially down in zone. A simple RH stroke, compact bat path down through the contact creating backspin line drives that carry. With 13 HRs on the season and a career .542 SLG%, Lopez has proven his consistent gap power and barrel feel. Looks to drive the ball on a line and move runners over, but his size will naturally create some power for him. Has shown an improvement in plate discipline and pitch selection in his last season.

Adrian’s production in the Big 10 might be under appreciated. With his frame, natural fielding ability, and plate production, there is plenty of potential for success at the professional level. If an organization can leverage his contact tool and help him unlock untapped power, I think his stock rises much higher.
