| Summary: Seward is as complete a profile as the 2027 class has produced. A true switch-hitter with smooth, compact strokes from both sides — the right-handed swing features tight turns, a flat path and a keen ability to backspin the baseball, while the left-handed side introduces more trunk tilt and loft with slightly less contact refinement but minimal bat speed loss. Elite bat speed from both sides generates power that already shows up in games, and the frame continuing to fill out gives the over-the-fence projection room to grow considerably as the physical development continues. The speed is as loud a tool as any in the class — a double-plus runner who accelerates quickly and has flashed times pushing toward the top of the scale, and may actually be getting faster as the strength gains compound the athleticism. At shortstop, the defensive actions are as advanced as any player in his class — light on his feet with soft hands, decisive and efficient movement patterns, and an internal clock that allows him to play the rangy, acrobatic plays under control rather than at the expense of execution. The arm strength fits the left side of the infield comfortably and the footwork and hands all collaborate into a defensive profile that projects as an impact shortstop long term. The five-tool blend is what makes the ceiling conversation genuinely exciting. A year younger than most of his peers and already drawing early first-round caliber evaluations, the combination of hit tool, power projection, speed, defense and arm give the profile all-star potential at a premium position. There is not a clear weakness anywhere in the evaluation — the left-handed contact refinement is the natural area to develop, and a full healthy arc gives the ceiling room to push as high as any prep prospect in recent memory. | |||||||||||
