| Summary: With a frame built for the long haul, Cheatham brings a mid-western physicality to the mound that few others in the 27′ class can match. At 6’4″, 243 lbs. he not only catches the eye with early physical development, but adds a level of athleticism that is rare for a pitcher his size. The arsenal is developing but already boasts five pitches that can be used at will. It’s a big time fastball, touching 99 mph this summer, though resting comfortably in the 93-96 mph range. He primarily works with a four-seam but will mix in a sinker. He’ll deploy two breaking balls, a curveball with depth at 80-83 mph, and a slider with late sweeping action spinning upwards of 2400 rpms. The cutter is hard (87-90 mph) and has shown the ability to miss barrels. Finally, the change-up shows sink with arm-side-run in the in the high 80’s. Cheatham does manipulate the arm slot at times depending on the pitch he’s throwing. The operation is relatively simple, staying directional to the plate, however at times will pull off to the first base side. His arm speed is elite with a consistent stroke on the backside. During the spring for Union County he eclipsed double digit strikeouts in 7 of his 9 starts while averaging over 2k’s per innings pitched. Eric Dillinger is currently the Head Baseball Coach at Erie High School, entering his 4th season as the Head Coach and 9th season overall. Dillinger was the pitching coach at Erie prior to becoming head coach. At the club level, he has coached nationally for multiple organizations including the Colorado Yard Dawgs, the Colorado Rockies Scout program, and USA Prime. Dillinger is also currently the General Manager for D-BAT NW Denver. In addition to his duties as GM, he is also a senior pitching instructor. He is certified in Rapsodo Pitching and is also Driveline Certified (Pitch Design). Beyond coaching on the field, Dillinger enjoys helping athletes in the recruiting process. He has helped over 40 athletes find homes at the next level.
