| Summary: Thiel operates from a tall, physically projectable frame with a cross-body delivery and a wide arm slot that creates real angle deception, helped further by extension that eats into a hitter’s reaction time. It’s an unusual look for hitters to pick up cleanly, and evaluators across multiple settings have flagged him as one of the more improved arms they’ve seen this cycle. The fastball currently sits 89-91 and has reached as high as 94, finishing with sink and some late life to the arm side that makes it tough for right-handed hitters to get on top of. He’s not an especially explosive athlete, so a jump into elite velocity territory isn’t the likely path — but continued strength gains point to more in the tank beyond the current range. The changeup is the standout secondary, sitting upper-70s with fade and diving action that should play as a genuine weapon once the rest of the arsenal catches up; the breaking-ball mix is still sorting itself out, with a low-70s curveball that mostly steals strikes right now and a harder, more horizontal slider that flashes but hasn’t found consistency. Already, he throws more strikes than most pitchers his size and age, pointing toward average or better command down the line. The profile is a starter, full stop — physical projection, a plus changeup already ahead of schedule, and advanced strike-throwing for the frame give him a real foundation to build from as the fastball shape and breaking-ball consistency continue to develop. | |||||||||||
