| Summary: It’s not often a prospect will turn down 2nd round money to head off to campus. That’s exactly what Chris Levonas did in 2024 when drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers 67th overall. Wake Forest may be one of the few destinations a pitcher would do so for. Known for their elite development of pitchers along with one of the most advanced labs in the country, Levonas bet on himself, and it appears that was the right decision. Heading into the 2027 season Levonas is highly regarded as one of the top right-handed pitchers eligible for the coming draft. That is due in large part to a superb sophomore season for the Deacons, posting a 10-3 record while punching out 116 (38.9%) over 73.1 innings pitched. Stats aside, the stuff Levonas brings to the mound is electric. With a frame that stands to gain more from a strength and mass perspective, the righty is a developmental dream. The arsenal is anchored by a fastball capable of touching triple digits with considerable carry through the zone. He is now showing the ability to hold velocity deep into starts (95-98 mph). His low 80’s curveball has good depth and differentiates shape from a his slider with more horizontal action. He tunnels both pitches well with the fastball. He throws a hard changeup that plays with run (92-93 mph) and a cutter that grades out well on many stuff + models. Levonas employs quite a few ways to take you out. Mechanically, he moves extremely well with athleticism and above average extension down the hill. The leg kick is on the higher side, though he controls it well staying linear to the plate. His arm is extremely fast with a longer stroke on the back side. His command continues to improve and should see future gains as he fills out physically. He’s a top 10 talent that projects as a staple in a big league rotation. | |||||||||||
Eric Dillinger is currently the Head Baseball Coach at Erie High School, entering his 4th season as the Head Coach and 9th season overall. Dillinger was the pitching coach at Erie prior to becoming head coach. At the club level, he has coached nationally for multiple organizations including the Colorado Yard Dawgs, the Colorado Rockies Scout program, and USA Prime. Dillinger is also currently the General Manager for D-BAT NW Denver. In addition to his duties as GM, he is also a senior pitching instructor. He is certified in Rapsodo Pitching and is also Driveline Certified (Pitch Design). Beyond coaching on the field, Dillinger enjoys helping athletes in the recruiting process. He has helped over 40 athletes find homes at the next level.
