| Summary: Vidal has built a real track record this spring, looking good throughout the showcase circuit and earning a spot on a national team roster off the strength of it. The fastball is the headline pitch — sitting comfortably in the low-to-mid 90s and touching as high as 97, delivered with velocity that comes without much visible effort and real carry up in the zone that’s generated whiffs at nearly every stop. He consistently works ahead in the count with it, keeping his hand behind the baseball through release in a way that helps produce that ride-and-run life through the zone, using the pitch to set up everything else rather than just relying on the radar reading. The slider is trending into a real second weapon — a sweeping breaking ball with real depth to it that’s flashed chase potential against right-handed hitters, with more than one evaluator pointing toward plus upside as the shape continues to develop. The changeup remains firmly the third pitch, shown only sparingly across looks but bringing real velocity and fade when he’s gone to it. Command has been a consistent strength throughout — he’s shown the ability to fill up the top of the zone and compete in the strike zone rather than around it, the kind of strike-throwing that supports a starter’s workload as the rest of the arsenal continues to round into form. Between a fastball that already looks like a plus pitch and a slider trending the same direction, Vidal profiles as a legitimate two-pitch foundation with real time still to add polish to the changeup and continue building out a starter’s full repertoire. | |||||||||||
