| Summary: Diaw is a right-handed hitter whose bat is the calling card any time he’s in the lineup. He makes contact at an above-average clip, draws his share of walks, and sends the ball to every part of the field, and he rarely gets fooled or expands the zone. Power is the missing piece. His raw pop projects no higher than fringy, he doesn’t hit the ball hard often, and the path through the zone runs flat and long, which keeps the ball low. The occasional pull-side drive leaves the park, but impact isn’t part of his game. Behind the plate, he’s nimble, he’s improving as a receiver and as a game manager, and the arm is average. He’s still learning the position, and the glove may take longer to come around. He’s a smart player known for his effort. Catcher is the likely home, and he can lean on his outfield time if catching doesn’t work out. Health is the concern over the entire profile. A back injury cost him a year in college, and a broken hand cut short another season. A broken wrist and then a hamstring strain limited his first full pro season. Availability is a real question. At his best, he’s a contact-first hitter with almost no power who can catch and play the outfield. Healthy, he could claim the starting spot behind the plate. If the injuries keep coming, the contact skills and positional flexibility point to a utility role off the bench | |||||||||||
