| Summary: An unsung talent from Orange County. Kurz has had early success as an amateur prospect, making the National USA 15u roster in 2024 and winning the 2026 National High School Invitational with Orange Lutheran. The 6’1” senior shows fluid motions defensively, with projectable size for the next level, and comes from great baseball tradition as a Lancer. Kurz’s swift footwork and length allow him to cover ground laterally in the field. Maintains smooth movement through the ball and delivers accurate throws with a quick release from all angles. Has played some 1B at the high school level, and I think he could be a great fit at 3B going forward, but the tools are there to stick up the middle. The righty stands in with an athletic stance, and his weight shifted slightly to his backside. A quick leg lift and short, punchy rotational swing, Kurz does well to find hard contact to the gaps and on the ground. Tends to catch his barrels deep in the zone, keeping an up-the-middle approach with some pull-side power shown. For all the success he’s had, his biggest improvements will be made on the offensive side. If he can add weight and strength to his frame as he develops, it will be interesting to see how the power profile changes. While he’s shown great barrel feel, tapping into more consistent slug could make him just as valuable offensively as he is defensively. There are many names to follow in the Trinity League, and Kurz shouldn’t be left off the long list. The 17-year-old infielder projects with size and mobility, a dependable glove, and legit bat-to-ball skills. | |||||||||||
