| Summary: Gil’s speed is his best tool, and it grades double-plus. On the bases it forces defenses to stay alert and lets him take the extra base. His read of pitchers and efficiency on the bases still have room to sharpen, but the legs give him a dependable base of skills. At the plate, he’s a right-handed hitter with a low setup and a small timing motion before a short stride. His hands are quick and the path through the zone is flat with a slight downward tilt. He lets the pitch come to him and doesn’t chase, so he draws walks and limits strikeouts, with contact skills that sit above average. Power is light right now, because his pull-heavy approach produces a lot of grounders. He’s lean, with more strength still to add, and that added strength is where more impact could come from. Defensively, shortstop is the likely home. His hands, actions, and the range that comes from his speed all fit the position, backed by an above-average arm. The tougher plays deep in the hole can give him trouble. He’s also logged time at third and has the tools to move to second. Even with limited power, the hit tool, the speed, and the glove could add up to everyday big league value. If the strength comes, he projects as a regular at shortstop or third, with a solid floor built on speed and defense. | |||||||||||
