| Summary: McCraine is a left-handed hitter who stands out in the box with a tall, rangy build. His stance is slightly open with the hands held high and a small, controlled lift of the front leg, and the swing gets him to plus power from a broad base with a minimal windup. The raw power is plus now and should grow as his body matures, and the bat has the makings of a lineup centerpiece. He also pitched before, with his fastball reaching 96, though his control and secondary pitches limited that path, and his future is as a hitter. Contact is the major question. His bat-to-ball skills are below average, with clear problems against spin, and his contact rate on pitches in the zone ranked among the worst in his conference. Advanced offspeed and elevated velocity trouble him most. The plate discipline is a real strength, with a low chase rate and good walk numbers, and his strikeouts are modest for how often he whiffs. His at-bats are mature even when the contact isn’t there. In the field, he’s played mostly right field, where a plus arm fits well. He runs well, with long strides, and the range makes up for a first step that needs work. Some evaluators think he can move to center field. The power and the approach point to a high-impact bat, and his contact rate decides how much of it shows. If the swing-and-miss settles, the ceiling is a middle-of-the-order hitter who also provides a strong outfield arm. | |||||||||||
