| Summary: Partida is a left-hander who attacks the strike zone and understands how to work hitters. He throws from a three-quarters slot with a smooth arm path that gets the ball out quickly. The fastball sits in the low 90s and touches 94, with run and sink to the arm side, and he moves it around the zone. He’s unhurried on the mound, and he’ll throw any of his pitches whenever the count calls for it. The changeup is his best secondary and the pitch he turns to most. It sits in the low-to-mid 80s with plenty of speed separation from the fastball, fading and sinking in tandem with it, and it drops sharply near the plate to break hitters’ timing. The slider, in the low 80s with a touch of sweep, and a curveball in the high 70s are both usable, and he can throw either one for a strike or bury it as a chase pitch, depending on the hitter. Swing-and-miss is distributed about equally among the fastball, slider, and changeup. The fastball won’t overpower hitters, and he needs more velocity to get the most out of what he does well. He also hits left-handed with a smooth swing and plays other positions, making him a good athlete. He projects as a starter, and his polish is more advanced than his age suggests. Added velocity is what would raise the ceiling. | |||||||||||
