| Summary: Harmon has a long, slender frame and a loose arm that gets the ball out quickly. The fastball sits in the mid-90s and reaches 98, rising through the top of the strike zone and finishing with a late cut. Physical development should help him reach that velocity more often, and the ceiling on the pitch is double-plus. He throws from a three-quarters slot and finishes slightly across his body, and the mechanics repeat well. A sweeper in the low 80s and a harder slider in the upper 80s give him two distinct breaking shapes, and both already grade better than average. He places both well. The work ahead is sharpening each into a true out pitch. The changeup is the main project. Facing weaker hitters never required one, so the pitch is unrefined and he’s still looking for a feel for it. The delivery can get hurried at times, so keeping his timing consistent is a key area to watch. His athleticism lets the velocity come naturally, which supports the idea that he can start. He’ll need to get stronger and prove the stuff against pro lineups. He projects as a starter with a ceiling near the front of a rotation if the breaking balls sharpen and the changeup becomes usable. If that third pitch never arrives, the fastball and the breaking balls would likely play best in shorter outings, so relief is the fallback. | |||||||||||
