| Summary: Azocar is a right-handed hitter with power that grades plus and a swing that has few moving parts. He stands tall and balanced in the box with a quiet load and a moderate stride, and his hips and hands work in sync to generate a lot of bat speed. Raising his hands helped him straighten out his load and swing path, and the groundballs dropped sharply, which let the power carry into games. He stays in against upper-90s fastballs and drives them. The hit tool carries a lot of variance. He’s excellent on pitches in the zone, but when he chases, he comes up empty about half the time, and the swing has limited flexibility to adjust. His aggressive approach is reasonable given how young and productive he’s been, though it will draw more pressure as pitchers exploit it. The hit tool may end up average at best, which makes the power the more reliable source of value. In the field, he runs well and gets over a lot of the outfield, with efficient routes and a good read off the bat. Center field is his home right now and he could hold it, though right field may be the better long-term fit as he matures. The arm is above average and plays at any outfield spot, and he can still tighten up his first step. Plus power, solid defense, and a chance to stay in center point to an outfielder who plays every day at a level above average. The swing decisions will decide how much of that he reaches, and his strength gives him a good base to build from if they sharpen. | |||||||||||
