| Summary: Batiste is a big-bodied outfielder who looks well ahead of his peers physically, with a frame that has more filling out to do. Power defines him. The raw grade is double-plus, with a path to the very top of the scale as he matures, and in batting practice he sent a ball 405 feet to center from the right side at 108 mph off the bat. He switch-hits, and the pop shows from both sides. The bat speed comes naturally, which is a large part of why the projection is so strong. The profile leans toward power over hit. The swing gets underneath the ball, and he’s looking for impact every time up. At his age the mechanics are still raw, with a lot happening in his hands and legs, and his timing often runs behind the pitch from both sides. Better pitching has pushed him to the opposite field. The swing still works reasonably from each side, his at-bats are competitive, he draws walks, and he has the strength to drive balls out while off balance. Strikeouts will come along with the power. A corner outfield spot is his home, and right field is the likeliest. The defense is fringy now. He’s a below-average runner, light on his feet for his size, and speed work could pick up a small gain. The arm grades above average and suits right field. Conditioning will matter, because staying athletic as he matures is what keeps him in the outfield. If he does, there’s a power bat here with the potential to anchor a lineup. | |||||||||||
