| Summary: Primrose is a right-handed hitter with a thick, strong frame and bat speed that arrives quickly without strain. His power grades plus, and the quality of contact he produces, along with his expected output, is among the best in the country. That has translated into big production. He turns hard through the zone and puts his strength into the swing, and most of his damage comes on pitches he can drive. The approach protects the power. He’s patient and picks his pitch, rarely chases, and when he swings at a strike he usually makes contact. Contact skills grade above average. The caveat is the quality of opponents he faces. He doesn’t see elite arms often, and in his limited looks against them, high velocity and firm sliders breaking away have caused him problems. How the contact holds up against better pitching is the area to monitor. Catcher is his home, and he has a good chance to stay there. He has a durable frame, his receiving grades well, and the arm is useful. The footwork and accuracy on his throws to second need work, and the raw tools are present to make that improvement. He competes and handles the basics. He doesn’t run well. The bat has to keep rising for the profile to reach its ceiling, and it’s a good one. A strong season against tougher competition could push him toward the top of the draft. | |||||||||||
