Summary:
Sato is a power-first hitter whose game revolves around lifting the ball and pulling it. He hits the ball hard often, and the damage he does with that swing is what drives his production, with contact ability a secondary part of the profile. He’s an aggressive hitter, and the approach fits the swing.

He’s grown from an inconsistent power hitter into the league’s MVP, and he’s stood out against top competition in international play. His raw power grades double-plus, built on a very quick bat. His patience has improved too, and he’s taking more walks than he used to.

The translation risk sits in the contact. He chases and strikes out a lot, and on pitches in the strike zone he connects a little less often than some of the hitters who made this jump successfully did just before they came over. That’s something to track. How the power plays once he’s stateside depends on how much contact he can keep making against better pitching.

Defensively, he’s playable in a corner outfield spot with a strong arm, and he’s also spent time at third base, though the glove projects as a drag on his value at either spot. He has a good chance to be posted this offseason. If the power carries over, he has the ceiling of a run-producing bat in the heart of a lineup, and the downside shows up if it doesn’t.
