| Summary: Natili is a right-handed hitter, a fighter who was taken in the third round. His top offensive trait is power that grades plus. He gets the ball airborne regularly and sends it over the fence to every part of the field, using both metal and wooden bats. The swing lengthens at times, which produces misses on fastballs even in the strike zone, and he has difficulty reading spin, often chasing breaking pitches out of the zone. He’s disciplined enough that he rarely chases, and he attacks strikes, which holds back some of the damage. Contact is the main risk. He’s below average at putting the bat on the ball, and the pure hitting ability is a real question. He has a calm body and a quiet set of hands, which points toward improvement in his contact rates, though he’ll probably always miss some. Pitchers will test him as they improve, and he’ll have to adjust. When he gets the barrel on a pitch, the ball explodes. Behind the plate, his arm is one of the best at the position, a plus tool that produces accurate throws. His receiving and blocking have gotten better, and he could become an average defender. He still has to polish his footwork and his mobility from side to side. He’s a slow runner but more mobile while catching. Teammates respond to his leadership. He’s most likely a number-two catcher who slugs, though a path to being a solid starter exists if his contact improves and his defense continues to progress. | |||||||||||
