| Summary: Lodise comes from a family of shortstops. His older brother Kyle was a third-round pick of the White Sox and his cousin Alex a second-round pick of the Braves, and Jordan’s glove grades as the most refined of the group, with a looseness around the bag and an ability to adjust on the fly that the other two lacked. He has soft touch, flexible wrists, and a fast arm, and he can throw accurately from a variety of positions. His range to both sides is enough to play shortstop in the pros. The arm grades average, and it’s the one limitation in an otherwise polished defensive profile. He has superb control of his body and reaches deep into the hole to keep balls from reaching the outfield, but the throw doesn’t always get the runner. His athleticism stands out, and he’s projected to run well. At the plate, his stroke is short and uncomplicated, his timing is sound, and he swings a quick bat. A moderate leg kick gets his legs involved, and the bat stays on the plane of the pitch for a long stretch. He handled the bat competently as a freshman and is mostly a gap-to-gap hitter at this point. A slim build with wide shoulders leaves room to add strength, and the extra muscle should bring more power. The glove is the strength today and the bat has more to prove, and the two together give him the tools of a shortstop who’s complete on both sides. If the power comes, he has the ceiling to follow his brother and cousin in the draft. | |||||||||||
