| Summary: Haley is a left-hander with a quick, athletic body and four pitches, still developing, with a delivery that flows smoothly. He moves down the mound well, repeats his mechanics, and throws strikes, though his head dips slightly as he delivers. The fastball sits in the low 90s, carries through the top of the zone, runs to the arm side, and touches 97. Evaluators think it should settle in the mid-90s down the road. The curveball is his best breaking pitch and could be his best pitch of any kind. It’s a hard, sharp breaker in the upper 70s that flashes plus. The slider, in the low 80s, has two planes of movement and promise, but it can melt into the curve, which hurts both and pushes him back to the fastball. The changeup takes the spin off the ball and may turn into his top secondary, though he seldom throws it. He has a good touch for locating and mixing his pitches. His medical record is the most important variable. He’s had several surgeries, Tommy John among them, so the injury risk is real, and the range of outcomes is wide. The delivery could use a little more polish in its rhythm and tempo so it comes across as smoother. He projects as a starter with mid-rotation upside from the left side if the pieces fall into place. | |||||||||||
